New bridge for pupils


The representative of Dantri, Garco 10 JSC and Cau Ke District People's Committee attended the opening ceremony of the bridge across the Rach Dui River with hundreds of local people.

80-year-old Nguyen Thi Hai said the residents pooled money to build the old Rach Dui Bridge over 30 years ago. "It deteriorated so badly that everyone's safety was threatened, especially schoolkids. We’re really happy after seeing the new bridge," she said.

Nguyen Thi Nhu Y, a 6th grader, said the old bridge was steep so they often had to walk carefully with their bikes on it.

Garco 10 JSC donated VND375m (USD15,000) 400)and the locals living nearby donated parts of their land to build the road leading to the bridge.

Tran Quy Dan from Garco 10 JSC said, "Today, we're proud to bring the compassion of all employees to the people in the Mekong Delta. This is also the second bridge that Garco 10 and Dantri have worked together on in the Mekong Delta."

Pham Tuan Anh, deputy editor-in-chief of Dantri, said, "We're glad to be able to open the 14th Dantri bridge in Vietnam. We also want to thank Garco 10 for partnering with us in the past years and other sponsors for scholarships and donations to build the restrooms for the pupils. The authorities of Cau Ke did their best to help complete the bridge on time."

Ngo Thanh Xuan, vice chairman of Cau Ke District, said after the story about the deteriorating bridge was published, a kind reader in HCM City called and offered a donation. However, at that time, Garco 10 had already made their donation so the reader decided to donate VND260m (USD10,400) to build another bridge in Ninh Thoi Commune.

On the same day, Dantri transferred 40 scholarships worth VND500,000 (USD20) each and 40 bags to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
