Amoured vehicles used in the raid
Over 300 police in Son La and agencies under the Ministry of Public Security with armoured vehicles raided the infamous dealers Nguyen Thanh Tuan and Nguyen Van Thuan in Long Luong Commune since early morning of June 27. Both Tuan and Thuan were on the wanted list of the Ministry of Public Security and Police Department of Quang Ninh Province.Tuan and Thuan then hid in Son La.
The police called on the criminals to surrender but the dealers hid in the house with armed subordinates. Both Tuan and Thuan were killed in a shooting. The police arrested three suspects, seized four guns, three grenades, bullets and gas cylinders.

According to Long Luong Commune Chairman Tenh A Chia the area where Tuan and Thuan built their hideout is a drug hotspot which is only 10 kilometres from the communal centre. Locals were warned from going near the site before the raid was carried out.

In 2016, the Ministry of Public Security held two successful raids and prosecuted nearly 40 for illegally trading drugs and storing weapons. Both the weapon and drug trading networks were operated by Nguyen Thanh Tuan. Tuan and his accomplice, Dang Minh Chau, earned over VND15bn (USD600,000) in profits from trading drugs to other countries from 2012 to 2014.
490 packages of heroin hid in gas cylinders are seized in a raid in 2015
From 2014 to 2015, the police seized 490 packages of heroin in Hanoi in a drug trading case. After the investigation was expanded, 13 people were prosecuted for drug dealing nearly 1,200 heroin packets. They were identified as Tuan's subordinates.
