A corner of Ho Chi Minh City
From now to 2020, average growth in total goods retail and consumption service revenue is to be 8.55 to 11.53 per cent per annum, 10.89 to 14.02 per cent per annum in the 2021-2025 period, and 6.82 to 9.06 per cent per annum in the 2026-2030 period.
The city will encourage local enterprises to invest in developing modern store chains and convenience stores instead of stores opening spontaneously, according to Ms. Nguyen Huynh Trang, Department Deputy Director. It will also encourage existing household retailers to transfer from the ineffective traditional model to the modern retail method.
The city possesses advantages in trade and services thanks to its geographic location, high-quality human resources, and trade infrastructure, according to Mr. Ha Ngoc Son, Head of the Import-Export Management Department at the Department Industry and Trade.
The problems for the city’s trade industry include outdated technical infrastructure and management in modern shopping channels.
The city now has 207 supermarkets, 43 trade centers, and 1,100 convenience stores, which account for 21 per cent of total retail revenue. It is also developing transactions via mobile services, boosting the combination between e-commerce and other distribution channels to form a multi-distribution method.
It also plans to have supermarkets and trade centers account for 40 per cent of total retail revenue by 2020, 50 per cent by 2025, and 60 per cent by 2030.
A network of logistics centers will be established to provide goods, with centers developed for transshipment between the city to other provinces and exports and imports. This will contribute to cutting production and distribution costs.
The city will implement five measures: develop trade infrastructure, trade support services, capital, and human resources training, and improve the quality of State management.
Sources for the development of the trade industry will be mobilized primarily from the private sector. State agencies will direct development so as to concentrate on fulfilling the task of consolidating a favorable and equitable business environment and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of businesses and consumers.
