Nobel laureates, scientists to attend Vietnam science conference

Two Nobel Prize laureates and hundreds of scientists from around the world have come to Vietnam to attend a two-day conference on the role of science in socio-economic development.

Two Nobel Prize laureates and hundreds of scientists from around the world have come to Vietnam to attend a two-day conference on the role of science in socio-economic development.

The two-day Science for Development conference is part of the 14th annual Meeting Vietnam which was opened on May 9 in Quy Nhon City.

At the event, delegates focused on discussing the role of science in sustainable socio-economic development.

Among the participants are Norway’s Prof. Finn Kydland, the economic Nobel winner in 2004 and the Netherlands’ Prof. Gerard't Hooft, physics Nobel winner in 1999 who both arrived in Binh Dinh on the evening of May 8.

This is the second time the two scientists have come to the province to participate in the event.

The two Nobel-winning professors had important speeches at the conference’s opening session and will join roundtable talk on science impacts and science models this afternoon, May 9 and tomorrow.

Meeting Vietnam first began in Quy Nhon in 2000 and became an annual event in 2011 with support from local authorities and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
