At the dialogue, a number of issues were brought to the table including outlets for agricultural products, a management system for food safety and hygiene as well as funds for agricultural projects.
Vietnam's agriculture sector has seen stable development in the past years. In 2017, export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products reached USD36bn, while the export surplus reached USD8.5bn. Vietnam has set the goal to reach USD40bn in export turnover this year.
In order to be one of the top global exporters, 11 million households with 24 million farmers have contributed greatly to the economy. However, most of the farms are small in size, leading to low productivity, quality and competitiveness.
The dialogue is hoped to help the government understand more about the difficulties and desires of farming households so that effective and suitable solutions can be found.
The conference organisers said they had received 1,000 questions. The PM would try and answer many of the questions directly and appoint members of the government to answer questions that concern ministries or departments.
Before attending the dialogue, the PM visited the Hung Viet fruit processing and storing facility of veteran Tran Quoc Khanh. This is the first facility in Hai Duong that can plant, buy, classify, package and sell fruits for farmers.
