Disabled father struggles to raise ill daughter and wife

Ha Ngoc Anh, head of residential cluster 14 in Dieu Luong Commune, said, "Dieu's family is one of the most difficult cases in our commune. Dieu is disabled, his wife has mental health problems, their youngest daughter has a goitre and their eldest daughter went south to find a job."

Dieu said his mother was sick while being pregnant so he was born with disabled legs. He got married at 21 years old and welcomed two daughters. Unfortunately, his youngest daughter, Dang Thi Thu Thuy, has Basedow's goitre since she was small and his eldest daughter dropped out of school at 18 to find work.

Without money, Thuy wasn't treated and her condition turned for the worse two years ago.

Dieu said, "A charity group visited and told me to bring her to Hanoi but we couldn't afford that. In 2016, she was in such a severe pain and her eyes looked like they would pop out. Doctors at the National Hospital of Endocrinology said she needed to go to hospital regularly but the money from when we put up the land-use rights book as collateral and borrowed from everyone has run out."

Their daily meals are mostly porridge and vegetables.
