Thousands of young join army

Tens of thousands of young people nationwide say goodbye to their families and friends to join the military in ceremonies held across the country on March 5.

Military service in Vietnam is compulsory for males between 18 and 25 (extended to 27 for those who applied for a delay to obtain higher education degrees) years of age.

In Da Nang City, 1,150 young people attended the ceremony on Monday morning at which 950 will join the army and 200 join in the public security units.
