Ho Chi Minh City held firework displays at four locations including Nguyen Hue Street. Thousands of people crowded the street, some even climbed up the trees as there was no space left.
From the afternoon of December 31, people in Hanoi already flocked out to the street to secure a place by Hoan Kiem Lake and to participate in the countdown at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square. The streets near Hanoi Opera House were also packed with people even though there was no fireworks.
In Danang, fireworks were lit up since 9 pm. Visitors enjoyed the colourful display with background music held near Han Bridge and Dragon Bridge. All the routes around the bridges were crowded with people waiting for the music show and firework display at 7 pm despite a sudden rain.
Nguyen Mai said her family was from Hanoi and celebrated the New Year in Danang. "I was worried that the rain would last for the whole night. But thankfully, it stopped quickly. I wish a happy new year for my family and everyone."
