The authorities of Quang Ninh will start collecting entrance fees to Yen Tu
The proposal to collect entrance fee was also submitted during a meeting early December. However, it was not approved as large amounts of construction inside the site were still incomplete. Quang Ninh’s authorities will contribute 80% of the fees to the state budget and use the rest to preserve the site.
Quang Ninh authorities had collected admission fees before and stopped in 2007. Since then, the government has spent a huge amount of money to renovate the site and paid wages to the management board.
However, Monk Thich Thanh Quyet, head of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam said the proposal was unreasonable as Buddhists had contributed a lot to the site's renovation. Tourists already have to pay fees for parking and cable cars.
