Nguyen Manh Hung is arrested for murdering his roommate
Hung said to the police that in June 2010, he jointly rented the house on 48 Truong Chinh Street with Bui Tien Dung, born 1981, so that they could organise football bets together. Dung agreed to give Hung 10% of the total money for his help.
As the World Cup 2010 neared its end, Hung calculated that he earned VND7m (USD308) but Dung refused to pay. They fought and Dung hit Hung in the face before going to the toilet. Hung then killed Dung in the toilet, borrowed a hoe to dig up the floor to bury Dung underneath. Ten days later, Hung returned the house and moved out, he said.
The case was discovered when construction workers unearthed a human leg while repairing a football cafe bar on December 3.
The house owner lived in a different area. The previous tenant opened a football cafe shop for about six years and did not quarrel with anyone. The house has been rented out to various people and the new owner wanted to repair the cafe bar for new business.
The leg was found under the front porch of the cafe which used to be a bedroom. The remains were found later with a severely broken skull.
