Hanoi to build super satellite urban area

Hanoi People's Council has approved the plan to build Hoa Lac Urban Area with a total area of over 17, 270ha and a population of 600,000 by 2030.

Hanoi People's Council has approved the plan to build Hoa Lac Urban Area with a total area of over 17, 270ha and a population of 600,000 by 2030.

The plan was approved on December 5.

  

Hanoi to build Hoa Lac super satellite urban area

The core of the new urban area will be the 1,600-hectare Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park and 1,000-hectare Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Hoa Lac Urban Area will be divided into urban development zone and the green belt. Both the hi-tech park and university will be located in the urban development zone.

The green belt area will include the agricultural zone on the west of Tich River, the ecological zone in Vien Nam Mountain, Ba Vi National Park and the green buffer zone near Hoa Lac Air Base.

The general planning of Hoa Lac Urban Area was also approved by the prime minister in 2015. The new urban area is 30km away from Hanoi's centre, next to Hoa Binh Province, Thach That District and Son Tay Town.

In 2011, the government approved Hanoi master plan to 2030 in which the city will have five satellite urban areas including Hoa Lac, Son Tay, Xuan Mai, Phu Xuyen and Soc Son. Hoa Lac will be the biggest out of five areas and play an important role in the capital's development strategy.
