Vietnam, China discuss bilateral cooperation

Welcoming Wang to Viet Nam, Deputy PM Minh extended congratulations on China’s successful organization of the 19th National Party Congress.

Minh affirmed that the Party and Government of Viet Nam always attach importance to developing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China and support China’s development and active contribution to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at the positive advancement of the bilateral ties over the past time, agreeing to work closely together to well prepare for Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to Viet Nam and attendance at the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

Both sides agreed to effectively implement the agreements and common perception reached their senior leaders, contributing to further strengthen the bilateral ties in the future.

The two countries agreed to maintain high level visits and contacts, enhance exchanges between the two Parties, Legislatures, and the Fatherland Fronts, further promote the role of the Steering Committee for bilateral cooperation and the two foreign ministries in coordinating the bilateral cooperation.

The two sides also agreed to foster the cooperative mechanisms on diplomacy, defense, security and law enforcement; take effective measures to ensure stable, fair and sustainable development of trade ties; and continue enhancing cooperation in such fields like transport, agriculture, science and technology, climate change adaptation, and sustainable water protection and use of the Mekong water resources.

Regarding maritime aspect, Deputy PM Minh called for serious compliance with the two countries’ agreements and common perceptions, including the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea related issues.

He urged the two sides to promote the existing negotiation mechanisms for trust building, perseveringly settle disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, fully and fruitfully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), work with other ASEAN member states to boost the process of drafting a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), well control divergences at sea, and avoid actions that may complicate or expand disputes in order to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.

Meanwhile, Wang briefed the host about the major outcomes of the 19th Chinese National Party Congress.

He stressed that Party leader and President Xi’s decision to make first foreign visit to Viet Nam after the 19th National Party Congress reflects that fact that China attaches highly importance to the neighborhood and comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam.

Wang also affirmed China backs Viet Nam to successfully host the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and Chinese foreign ministry will cooperate closely with Viet Nam’s relevant ministries and agencies to further accelerate the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a stable and sustainable way in the time to come.
