
The Ministry of Defence recently handed over 21 hectares of land to the Ministry of Transport for the expansion of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City
Part of the land lot which is located near Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District will be used for building a Ben Thanh -Tham Luong Metro Line station.Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, deputy director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Nguyen Van Hong pledged to make best use of the land.
The construction of the Ben Thanh -Tham Luong line, the second metro line being planned in HCM City, which will connect District 2 and District 12 was initially scheduled to start in 2018 but may be delayed until 2020.
The estimated cost has also been changed from USD1.3 billion to over USD2.1 billion with investment from the Asian Development Bank, the European Investment Bank and the city’s budget.
The line is part of the city's plans for a modern metro with eight lines.
The first line, the 19.7 km running between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien is expected to operate in 2020.
