New flyover to deal with Hanoi congestion

A VND5.3trn (USD233m) flyover is expected to be completed in 2020, boosting the local economy and dealing with the capital's congestion.

According to the Thang Long project management board, the preparations are being completed so that the flyover construction that will connect Mai Dich Ward and Thang Long Bridge will start in November. The investment comes from Japanese ODA and counterpart fund.

The flyover will be 5.3km long with four lanes designed for speeds up to 100km/h. It is hoped that the flyover will aid the socio-economic development process in the western side of Hanoi, further complete the city's traffic network and ease congestion.

The Thang Long projects management board submitted the flyover's planning to the Ministry of Transport in 2012. The flyover was planned to be completed in 2018 and cost VND6.2trn.

Another flyover connecting Mai Dich-Linh Dam urban area was also started in June 2010 and opened to traffic in 2012. The flyover is 8,912 m long and also have four lanes.
