Nguyen Thi Thinh's husband, Nguyen Xuan Truong, is a veteran but ever since he came home, he is diagnosed with mental illness and can't support the family.
Thinh's 35-year-old son, Nguyen Van Thien, and daughter, Nguyen Thi Thuy, are also mentally ill. Her son often wanders around naked, attacks strangers and destroys everything around him. The family has to lock him up in their house and use a dilapidated house from their relatives to live in.

Thinh and her grandson
"My daughter's situation is getting better but she still talks to herself at night," Thinh said.
But as Thinh is getting older, she worries more about her two-year-old grandson's future and who will take care of her mentally-ill husband and children.
Hanoi Beer-Alcohol and Beverage Corporation donated VND70m (USD3,000) for the family to build a new house. The construction was started on October 4 and is expected to be completed before Tet Holiday.
Thinh said, "We're really grateful to everyone that helped us. Now I don't have to worry about the rains and storms anymore."
