Cable car and resort plan raised for Bach Ma National Park

The Ministry of Construction has asked the authorities in Thua Thien-Hue Province to gather opinions from experts and the public before building a large-scale resort project and cable car system on Bach Ma Mountain.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Dinh Toan asked Thua Thien-Hue provincial authorities to consider several issues including the project land, road adjustment and required utility lines. Toan also said there was absolutely no evidence that the project could attract 500,000 visitors a year.

The architectural style for the tourism village and heritage art village was also still unclear.

For the cable car system, the ministry asked Thua Thien-Hue provincial authorities to give specific reports on the scale, routes and environmental impact. The provincial authorities should also gather opinions from relevant agencies, experts and the public about the project.

This is the second feedback from the Ministry of Construction. The first feedback in March asked the local authorities to unify the project's names, deadlines and what constructions will be built for the 'spiritual' tourism.

In 2014, Bach Ma Garden JSC was given the planning task by the investor, Myway Hospitality Company. Bach Ma Garden JSC then hired the American Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo and German Inros Lackner firms to help.

The project will cover 300 hectares with five areas connected by the cable system. The project is hoped to be an international destination and estimated to cost VND1.5trn (USD66m).

However, many experts said the investor must build an environmental impact report to prevent harmful effects to the Bach Ma National Park.
