46-year-old Nguyen Thi Xuan Trang is selling lotto tickets. Her husband was a bricklayer. He was diagnosed with liver cancer and died in 2014.

  

Trang takes care of her mother

Trang's mother, Quach Thi Nguyet, fell ill after giving birth to the youngest child and easily faints. She was diagnosed with a number of illnesses including arthritis, chronic pneumonia and meningitis. Most of her children had to go to other provinces to find work so Nguyen lives with Trang and frequently has to go to the hospital.

Trang was also diagnosed with uterine cancer and breast cancer. Despite weak health, she still tries to work to support her mother and two children.

"After my husband died, it was tough. I used to be a porter but after being diagnosed with cancer, I can only sell lotto tickets to buy medicines for my mother and pay tuition for my children," she said.

  

Trang's daughter wants to drop out

Nguyet said the monthly medicine cost for Trang and her was millions of VND. The family owes VND100m (USD4,400) in debt. 15-year-old Nghiem Thi Van Anh, Trang's daughter, said her sister had already dropped out of school to find work in HCM City. She is also considering dropping out of school too.

In addition, they have no house and must pay rent.
