In October last year, Quynh was arrested by Khanh Hoa provincial police and accused of distorting local government policies and defaming the regime.

Police reports claim that between 2012 and October 2016, Quynh used multiple Facebook accounts with the names of Me Nam, Me Nam Gau, and Nguyen Nhu Quynh to post and share articles and videos that opposed policies of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the state and criticised several political figures.

She also compiled and printed a document, entitled Stop Police Killing Members of the Public, listing 31 cases where members of the public had died after being questioned at police stations across the country.

The police instead, claimed the document was an abuse of democratic freedoms to agitate the people to turn against the state and the regime, causing ‘detriment to national security and social safety and order’.
