Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping reiceived President Tran Dai Quang in Beijing on May 11.
The Chinese President said he will pay a State visit to Vietnam and attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang this November while affirming his support for the Southeast Asian country to successful host the meeting.
State President Quang stressed that the two neighboring countries share many similarities and their traditional friendship, built and nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong and generations of leaders, is the valuable asset that needs to be preserved, inherited and promoted.
The increasingly healthy, stable and fine development of the bilateral ties is the objective demand that suits the fundamental and long-term interest of the two people and is conducive to peace, stability and development in the region and the world, said State President Quang.
He reiterated that the Party and State of Vietnam consistently attach importance to and sincerely wish to develop the friendly neighborhood and comprehensive cooperation with the Party and State of China, considering it as the strategic choice and among top priorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy.
During the talks, the two leaders expressed their pleasures at the positive developments of the relations between the two Parties and nations over the past time, discussing on major orientations to foster trust, consolidate friendship, beef up and increase the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in various fields, maintain maritime peace and stability in order to develop the bilateral ties healthily and sustainably in the future.
State President Quang asked the Chinese side to take effective measures to gradually reduce trade imbalance between the two countries, especially by enhancing import of Vietnamese farm produce.
Both sides should intensify cooperation to ensure sustainable use of the Mekong water resources and cope with water, environment and nuclear challenges, the Vietnamese State President said.
Regarding sea issue, State President Quang affirmed Vietnam’s consistent position of settling disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and respecting diplomatic and legal processes.
He urged the two countries to strictly implement the common perceptions, agreements and commitments reached by the two sides, especially the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related matters; effectively control differences and take no actions aimed at complicating and expanding disputes.
Both sides need to satisfactorily address fishery-related issues and operations of fishermen; accelerate negotiation mechanisms to achieve real progress; fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and strive to work with ASEAN countries to complete a Code of Conduct in the East Sea in 2017 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the signing of the DOC.
After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of five cooperative agreements.
