A Taiwanese wholly-invested company in the northern province of Quang Ninh has closed, leaving 2,274 unemployed.
Everbest Vietnam Ltd Co. in Cam Pha City stopped operations on January 20 as it received only a small number of orders.

The firm, which became operational in 2003, specialises in footwear exports and employees 2,274 workers, 90% of which are female. Everbest had a good reputation in terms of working conditions and treatment of its staff so the workers were very surprised at the surprise closure.
On January 24, Chairman of the provincial trade unions, Tran Danh Chuc worked with the company’s management board, asking them to talk directly with the staff.
At the meeting, the firm’s representatives pledged to pay the Tet bonus for all of its workers today, January 23, while social insurance and salary payments would be paid on February 10 and 15 respectively. They also said that the company would meet all of its legal commitments.
Quang Ninh’s trade union body has contacted local companies and groups to help find jobs for the company’s unemployed workers.
The company will continue working with the company to ensure the company’s workforce receive all their legal entitlements.
