Former Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang, has been dismissed from the position as secretary of the ministry's party branch during the 2011-2016 tenure
The decision was agreed at a Wednesday meeting chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to discuss disciplinary measures for the party branch of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Hoang as its former secretary during the 2011-2016 tenure.
The Secretariat also agreed to give the disciplinary warning to the ministry's party branch.
According to the recent conclusions of the Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, the party branch of the Ministry of Industry and Trade had been irresponsible and had violated a number of party and state regulations on personnel.
Although concluding that the violations and shortcomings by the party branch at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and former minister Hoang had serious consequences, hurt the prestige of the party, state, the ministry and himself, as well as raised public concern, the commission only give a warning and reprimand to Hoang, which was complained as too light by the public.
Commenting on the punishment given by the Secretariat to Hoang, former deputy chair of the Party Central Committee's Commission, Vu Quoc Hung, said that it was fair.
"Hoang may face further punishment from legislative bodies following their investigations," Hung added. "But through this case we've seen a serious lack of supervision of abuse of power by officials. And we need to intensify this."
