The Vietnam Competition Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said they worked with both the representatives of Samsung Group and Samsung Vina Electronics Company about the problem on September 6.

Samsung reported that the batteries were overheating and could catch fire while charging or using the phone.

Even though Vietnam hasn’t had any cases, the Ministry of Industry and Trade advised users, who bought the phone from August 19 to September 7, to return their phones to receive a new handset. 12,633 devices were sold in Vietnam during this period.

Those who bought from overseas buyers can go to retail locations or call the Samsung hotline for guidance before December 31.

Customers will be given a brand new Samsung Galaxy A3 to use while waiting for a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacement. They can also choose to pay 60% of the price of the Galaxy A3 to keep both.

Samsung Group announced the fire hazards and officially stopped selling the device on September 3.
