The World Bank has appointed Ousmane Dione as the new Country Director of the World Bank for Vietnam starting from September 12.

Dione has worked at the World Bank since 2000 as Water Resources Management Specialist. Since then, he has held many key positions in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, East Asia and the Pacific.
Before the promotion, he was Practice Manager for East Asia and the Pacific Region in the Water Global Practice in Philippines.
As the new World Bank director in Vietnam, Dione's priorities are to aid Vietnam's IDA graduation, continue strengthening partnership and co-operation between the World Bank and Vietnam and its local authorities. He is also set to build closer co-operation with Vietnamese government and partners to carry out the visions and recommendations in the Vietnam 2035 Report.
Dione will replace Victoria Kwakwa. Kwakwa was responsible for several billion dollar projects and an innovative knowledge programme. She was assigned as vice president for the East Asia and Pacific on April 15.
Kwakwa helped deepen Vietnam and the World Bank co-operation. She and a group of experts created the Vietnam 2035 Report, listing solutions and methods to help Vietnam become an upper-middle-income country in a generation.
