The Hue-based Central Hospital has just successfully carried out their first surrogate procedure with a baby girl born this morning, July 28.

The baby weighing 3.5 kilos, was born at 8.10am to a 35-year-old mother in Huong Tra District who has large uterine fibroids and cannot have children naturally.

Doctor Bui Duc Phu, director of Hue Central Hospital said that since the technology was made available, the hospital has received more than 10 applications for the procedure and successfully carried out three cases.
Vietnam has started implementing surrogacy technologies for a year now at three hospitals including the Hanoi-based Central Maternity Hospital, the Hue-based Central Hospital and the HCM City-based Tu Du Hospital.
Hanoi and HCM City welcomed their first surrogate earlier this year.
Eligible surrogates must be between the ages of 21 and 40 and be physically healthy. They must already have at least one child. If she is married, she must also receive her husband's approval to take part in the surrogacy case.
