A Nam Dinh Province widow is calling for support to save her son from leukaemia.
Pham Thi Guong said her husband suddenly died in 2004. "My children were only four and three years old at the time. They didn't know anything and just told each other that daddy would return. His death left me bewildered," she said.

Guong worked at construction sites to support her kids but misfortune continued to befall on her family as Guong accidentally fell from the scaffold and suffered severe injuries. She had to quit the job and earns little money by abrading surfaces with abrasive papers.
Despite the hardship, Guong was happy to have her children by her side. Then her son, Vu Hong Quang suffered a long fever and was diagnosed with leukaemia when he is 16 years old.
"I'm not afraid," Quang said. "I'm only worried about my mother."

Dr. Le Thi Nguyen from the Hanoi's National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion said Quang was being treated with chemotherapy. She said, "In the first phase, he needs at least six sessions. After that is bone marrow transplant if the family can afford it."
