Average rate of unlicensed software use

The rate of pirated software use in 2015 dropped 3% compared to 81% in the 2013 survey. According to the BSA, the decline is thanks to the government's efforts to increase public awareness and implement anti-piracy policies.

General Director of BSA Victoria A. Espinel said that many IT directors failed to fully understand the types and amount of software that are being used at companies. She also emphasised that using unlicensed software was dangerous as their networks may be attacked and faced high risk of being infected by viruses.

The British insurance company Lloyd's estimated in 2015 that cyber attacks cost businesses worldwide as much as USD400bn a year.

Vietnam had the second highest software piracy rate in South East Asia, after Indonesia with 84%. Globally, the Asia-Pacific has highest rate of software piracy at 61%, a decrease by 1% compared to 2013.

The study also shows that the worldwide rate is 39%, a slight decrease from 2013's 43%.
