A father in Can Tho City has lost his ability to provide for his family after being disfigured due to a giant tumour developing on his face and diagnosed with bone cancer.
Nguyen Hong An's wife Le Thi Nga said before An's health deteriorated, he worked as a porter, but then their lives were interrupted after An was diagnosed with bone cancer four years ago.

An has had three operations but the tumour on his face continues to grow and has now covered half of his face. An has troubles with eating and talking. He can only consume nutritional liquid through a straw.
Nga said they had borrowed over one hundred million VND for An's treatment and to raise the children. Their oldest son is in fourth grade and the youngest is only four years old. Nga collects rubbish for few hundred thousand VND a day.

"Sometimes, the kids were hungry and my husband was in pain but we didn’t have any money. No one wants to lend us anything now. An had an appointment at hospital on February 12 but we didn't even have money for meals, let alone going to hospital. I'm worried for my children," Nga said.
Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, deputy chairwoman of Binh Thuy Ward People's Committee, said the authorities and locals could only help Nga and her family with rice and instant noodles.
