TMV will carry out checking and free reprogramming of the engine control module for the affected Camry’s.
According to Toyota Motors Corporation, a defect was discovered in the engine control unit’s exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve control programme. This is a device which recirculates a portion of the exhaust gas to the intake system of the engine and suppresses NOx (nitride oxide) generation.
If the accelerator pedal is used frequently at short intervals, a condition might occur in which the EGR valve cannot close properly. The engine may then fail if exhaust gas cannot be discharged normally. In the worst-case scenario, this may cause the engine to stall while driving.
This campaign will be implemented at all TMV’s dealers nationwide from May 16, 2016. The reprogramming will take 0.7 – 1.4 hour for each car; however, the exact duration depends on the plans of each dealer. Customers who own affected vehicles will receive a letter of notice about the recall campaign and are invited to bring in their vehicles for free checking and reprogramming of the ECU. Other models produced and distributed by TMV are not affected.
Earlier, on May 12, TMV issued a recall notice for 113 Lexus ES250 and ES350 cars it imported and distributed in Vietnam for brake problems. These cars were manufactured in Japan between September 10, 2015 and February 18, 2016.
