Three Taiwanese passengers who were injured in a fire on tourist junk on Ha Long Bay have received an insurance pay out of VND18 million (USD857).
The incident happened at around 11 am when a VIT Ha Long Ltd. Co. junk was returning to Tuan Chau Port with 37 passengers on board. Most of the passengers were foreigners.

The fire left the three passengers with injuries.
The boat’s insurer, the Bao Viet Insurance Group, paid the three Taiwanese passengers is VND18 million based on the level of their injuries.
VIT Ha Long Ltd. Co. were paid VND110 million by Bao Viet Insurance Group for dealing with the damage caused by an oil spill from the destroyed boat and the injured passengers.
Chairman of Quang Ninh Province People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long said that he had urged local authorities to work with the police to investigate the cause of the accident.
