A widow in Bac Ninh Province is in need of financial help to support two small children after her husband died in a traffic accident.
Giang's mother and her youngest son
Nguyen Thi Giang's husband was killed by a motorbike six months ago. Since then, Giang has supported the family through working as a labourer while her mother takes care of two children at home. Their meals only have vegetables and peanuts.
"When her husband died, their youngest son was just 20 days old. His death hit Giang really hard," Nguyen Thi Len, Giang's mother, said. "Giang fainted after hearing about the death of her husband. After that, her mind is just not the same."
Giang's neighbour and head of Women’s Union in Lac Ve Commune, Dang Thi Phuong, said they often went to Giang's house to take care of the children, helping to share some of the burden while Giang goes to work.
The deteriorating house
Giang's father-in-law died and her mother-in-law re-married a long time ago. Their relatives are also poor and can't help them much. Even the house they are staying is deteriorating. The roof and the walls have been repaired many times.
"I thought I could die with my husband. But my children, one was nearly three years old and one was born just days ago. I have to live on. The CEJO Company, where my husband worked, offered me a job to earn some income to support my children. I often go from dawn and return when it's dark. My salary is about VND3m a month and I have to feed four people."
