An said that the travellers had to stay at the island last night and would be brought back to the mainland today (April 19) if the weather improved.

According to the chairman, offices of local agencies have been used to accommodate the stranded visitors. Lots of local households have also helped.

“We’ll do our best to ensure that people have accommodation and food, particularly elderly people and children. We’re also considering using a coastguard vessel to transport people today if the weather isn’t better," he added.

Earlier, on February 15, Quang Nam coastguard had also bring than 100 tourists stuck on the Cham Islands for two days back to the mainland because of rough seas and strong winds.

With the peaceful and unspoilt beaches, the Cham Islands has been attracting more tourists in recent years. The islands welcomed nearly 9,000 tourists over the just-concluded three-day holiday.
