Police in Lao Cai Province have decided to prosecute a school guard who is accused of molesting dozens of children aged between five to 11 years of age.

On March 30, police in Muong Khuong District said they would prosecute the individual. The guard will be detained for at least three months during the investigation.
The man, reportedly admitted to the police that since 2014, he had used snacks and sweets to lure the pupils of La Pan Tan Commune Boarding School into his guard post and molested them during breaks or after school hours.
The case was discovered when many children refused to go to school because they were afraid of him. Around 23 children have accused the guard of molesting them, some were molested more than once over the years.
The school staff persuaded the pupils to return to class and has been working with the parents to create a child protection plan.
