The prime minister has allowed Hanoi to open three unsubsidised passenger bus lines to connect the city centre with Noi Bai Airport.

The bus line No. 17 runs between Noi Bai Airport and Long Bien Station

Currently there are two subsidised bus lines, No. 07 and 17, running between Noi Bai Airport and Cau Giay and Long Bien Stations at a cost of VND7,000 (US$0.315) for each ride.

Buses on the three new lines will not receive government subsidies and are allowed to pick up and drop off passengers at some stops on their routes.

Details on fares and stops on these lines are not yet available.

The distance between Noi Bai Airport and Sword Lake in central Hanoi is around 30 kilometres and passengers can take taxis, public buses or airline buses to travel between the two points.

Hanoi’s public bus network is currently comprised of more than 60 lines, coupled with several lines connecting the capital city with surrounding provinces.

There are also plans to build a metro line between Noi Bai Airport and Ngoc Hoi Station to the south of the city but construction has not yet started.

On March 16, Ho Chi Minh City also launched a high-quality service from Tan Son Nhat Airport, charging passengers VND12,000 for a ride of less than 5 kilometres and VND20,000 for a ride of 5 kilometres and longer.

Discounted fares for students are not available for this service.
