A mother in Nam Dinh Province is calling for financial help to save her daughter from heart illness.

Talking about the illness of 16-year-old Nguyen Thi Hien, Mai Van Cuong, doctor at Hanoi's Bach Mai Hospital said, "She had a fever and sore muscles for two days. When she was admitted to hospital on the third day, she had irregular heartbeat and cardiogenic shock."
Hien was diagnosed with myocarditis, the inflammation of the heart muscle. Because of the severity of the situation, doctors immediately installed an ECMO machine to pump Hien’s heart.
Cuong said out of three myocarditis cases they received recently, one died and another girl got better thanks to help from the community.

However, Hien's condition is more complicated. Even though her condition has improved, Hien now has suffered from multi-organ failure, blood clotting disorders, and bleeding in the pleural space. Hien needs expensive dialysis treatment, blood components and fluid that cost VND10m (USD475) per day even with her insurance.
Tran Thi Trang, Hien's mother said, "We’re farmers with little income. We put up the house as collateral for loan and borrowed money from everywhere but her illness needs too much money."
