Drivers in Ho Chi Minh City now can obtain an international driving permit starting from February 25.

International Driving Permit
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will issue the permit to Vietnamese and foreigners who have permanent residency cards. A driving license issued in Vietnam is required for the process.
The permit will be valid for a maximum of three years and it is recognised in 73 countries that have signed the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. The waiting period is five days since the form and valid driving license are submitted. People can call (08) 1081 to book a date and complete procedures at 252 Ly Chinh Thang Street. The registration fee is VND135,000 (USD6.50).
In last November, the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam officially allowed licences to be issued in Vietnam. Hanoi is one of the first cities and provinces that issued the permit.
The International Driving Permit is a multi-page book. The basic information is written in English and Vietnamese. Personal information and vehicle class is printed in another section in Vietnamese, English, Russian, French and Spanish.
