The first free bread boxes were recently brought to the central city of Danang to help local poor workers. The model was earlier launched in Hanoi and HCM City.
A number of donors in some big cities, including Hanoi and HCM City, have contributed their money to provide these bread boxes for poor and homeless people.
The free bread box for Danang workers
The first charity bread box in Danang City is located on Hoang Dieu Street, which offers around 50 pieces of bread for the needy every morning.
Nguyen Thi Lien, 66, who lives by selling lottery tickets on Hoang Dieu Street said that she only earns a very modest income so the free bread helps her to save around VND3,000 she spends on her breakfast. Despite being a nominal sum, even the smallest amounts make a difference.
Speaking to DTiNews reporter, the bread box anonymous donor said he had been inspired by similar examples in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
He hoped the campaign will be expanded nationwide.
Earlier, a free baguette box was also put on on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street in HCM City. Every day it provides 150 loaves worth around VND450,000 (USD20).
