An ill woman in Can Tho City is in need of help to support her three children after their father left them.

Dang Thi Tam's house was built thanks to help from the local authorities and neighbours a long time ago and has started to deteriorate. Her husband left her and their three children four years ago when her kidney illness started showing symptoms.
Tam is diagnosed with kidney shrinkage at HCM City Institute of Hygiene and Public Health and has to use many expensive medicines. She needs at least VND6m (USD285) a month. "At first, we were fine because I could still work but for the past year, I can't even walk properly. Our lives are depend on the kindness of our neighbours," she said.
Tam is cared for by her children
Tran Thi My Duyen, head of Thanh Thang Commune's Red Cross Organisation, said, "The authorities worked with local people to help her but the people here are also poor so they can't help much."
Tam's oldest child is in 11th grade and her youngest is in sixth grade. In order to keep her children in school, Tam borrowed tens of millions of VND so no one wants to lend her money anymore. Tam's oldest child, Hung Quy, helps watering vegetable for their neighbours whenever he is free.
