Rescue team faces difficulties

Two workers are unaccounted for, but rescuers hold little hope of finding them alive. The rescue mission is facing difficulties reaching them due to rocks, rain and unfavourable terrain.

The accident happened as workers were preparing a hole for explosives. The collapse trapped eight workers inside the mine. Local authorities mobilised 200 personnel, including police and soldiers.

Four bodies were initially recovered, and a fifth worker was taken to hospital in critical condition. At 6pm, rescuers recovered a fifth body.

The mine is managed by Tuan Hung Company at Dong Son Hamlet, Yen Lam Commune.

It was the third serious accident in Thanh Hoa Province, with a total of at least 17 fatalities, since the beginning of the year.

Eight workers died on January 1 from carbon monoxide poisoning inside a lime kiln in Hoang Giang Commune. On January 9, four people were killed in a scaffolding collapse at a bridge construction site in Ta Pan Village.
