Disposable chopsticks, made in Vietnam, have tested negative for bleach, a chemical (typically a solution of sodium hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide) that is used to whiten or sterilise materials.

The health ministry's Vietnam Food Administration announced this today morning after the National Institute for Food Control tested 10 samples of disposable chopsticks collected randomly from the domestic market.
The tests were taken immediately after Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration yesterday sent a message to the Vietnam Food Administration that among 225 samples of disposable chopsticks collected from 172 hypermarkets, supermarkets and disposable tableware wholesale stores in that country, one sample was found to contain biphenyl and three others had hydrogen peroxide. All four samples had been made in Vietnam.
Head of the Vietnam Food Administration Nguyen Thanh Phong yesterday said he has already asked Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration to provide detailed information about the Vietnamese producers who manufactured the disposable chopsticks.
The Vietnam Food Administration would inspect and strictly impose penalties if it found any violation of regulations, he said.
