According to the decision announced on January 5, developers who commit to open and maintain new air route for at least six months and operate at least two flights per month will be financially supported as part of a local promotion programme.

The authorities will provide 50% discount on ticket prices for passengers who want to visit destinations that are under the management of the Hue Monuments Management Board. The developers will also be given free rides to transport passengers from the airport to Hue city centre.

In addition, key developers will be provided with VND10m (USD476) a month to subsidise a new office.

These advantages will be effective for one year for all new air routes except the routes to and from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports which already have developers.

Located about 15km from Hue City, Phu Bai, along with Danang and Cam Ranh is one of the main airports in Vietnam’s central region.

Phu Bai Airport was formerly used by the French and the Americans as air force base, but was transferred to civilian use in 1975. Due to the small size, the airport was able to receive only medium-sized planes and went under multiple repairs and expansions to become an international airport.
