Dan Tri readers have sent over VND100m (USD4,500) to help a man who had both his hands and right leg amputated, to raise his infant baby.
Ho's mother receives the donation
After Dang Long Ho's story was published, readers immediately donated VND60m to help him pay hospital charges. However, even though Ho was released, he has not been able to find work and the family cannot afford VND70m to buy prosthetic limbs for him.
On December 1, Dan Tri HCM City representative Ly Thi Toan Thang gave Ho's family VND100,230,000 donated by readers.
Tran Thi Luom, Ho's mother, expressed her gratitude and said they would spend the money on raising Ho's newborn baby and buy him prosthetic limbs.
Dang Long Ho became the sole breadwinner for his family after his father died, working as a bricklayer. He was just married and had a child when he was electrocuted while working at a construction site in August. In order to save his life, doctors had to cut off a third of his arms and a third of his right leg.
His wife's health is weak and cannot do hard work after being hospitalised with appendicitis since giving birth. Since the family borrowed hundreds of millions of VND to pay hospital charges, they have no money left for the child. Ho's relatives are also poor and are not in a position to help them much.
Ho's mother, Tran Thi Luom, said they did not know how to repay the debts, feed the baby and support his education when he grows up as Ho would not be able to work as before. They don't even have enough money for the baby's milk and need help from neighbours.
