The foreign minister said the Chinese president’s tour to Vietnam on November 5-6 was the first visit by a Chinese president since Hu Jintao came to Vietnam in November 2005.

During the visit, the leaders of the two countries will discuss ways to bolster ties in a wide range of areas.

Xi will hold talks with Vietnam Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and then meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, President Truong Tan Sang and National Assembly Nguyen Chairman Sinh Hung. Vietnam and China are poised to sign a co-operation plan.

The Chinese president will also have a wreath laying ceremony at late President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and attend the 16th Friendship Meeting of Chinese and Vietnamese Youth in Hanoi.

“This year is a very exciting time for Vietnam’s foreign affairs. Leaders of many nations have visited Vietnam, including British Prime Minister David Cameron,” Minh said.
