Old motorbikes and three-wheeled vehicles seized

On the first day of the campaign, October 26, the police seized nearly 100 bikes which failed to meet traffic safety regulations. Many did not have a number plate or registration papers, while others lacked a head lamp even though they were used at night.

Colonel Dao Vinh Thang, head of Hanoi's Traffic Police Board, said most of the motorbikes were being used to transport goods into the inner-city districts in the early hours of the morning to avoid detection. When stopped by police, drivers fled.

Major Thieu Manh Ngoc, head of the traffic police for Hoan Kiem District, said most of motorbikes and three-wheeled motorcycles were overloaded with goods for local markets and ignored traffic rules.
