Two ethnic children are in need of help to treat their meningitis as their parents can no longer afford their treatment and may have to bring them home.
Giang Thi De at hospital
About two weeks ago, 8 year-old Giang Thi De, a H'Mong ethnic girl, suddenly began to suffer from high fever and seizures. In order to pay the hospital fee and travel costs from Yen Bai Province to Hanoi's National Hospital of Traditional Medicine, De's parents sold most of their land and borrowed VND10 million but it has not proved enough.
Giang A Hu, De's father, said, "We spent our last money on her milk, we have nothing left for meals now and can't borrow any more. We have to bring her home."
Dr. Ngo Lan Phuong said De's condition had improved but she would need long-term treatment.
Trieu Thi Huong's condition got worse
Trieu Thi Huong, a 12-year-old Dao ethnic girl from Hoa Binh Province is also being treated at the National Paediatrics Hospital before being transferred to the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine.
"Her condition has worsened. All of Huong's limbs are paralysed and she has circular muscle disorder, " said Phuong.
Huong's mother stays at hospital to take care of her while her father has desperately tried to borrow money.
