A new bridge for a rural area in Ha Tinh Province is being branded a waste of money, built in a secluded location, which already has another bridge nearby.
Authorities of Son Tho Commune built the VND3.5bn Khe Tay Bridge, but the few it serves don't even know it exists.

"We've always used Gay Bridge. We didn't know anything about the new bridge," said Nguyen Van Hoan.
Nguyen Huu Hoa, another local, said Gay Bridge has its own road while people have to cross streams and mountain paths to get to the new bridge.
According to the survey done before the bridge construction, it was expected to serve 500 people a day, but few households use the new bridge.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang ordered an inspection and explanation from the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam.
"We have to make clear whether Khe Tay Bridge is in accordance with the new rural planning," Thanh said.
Nguyen Van Huyen, head of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam said an inspection team would get to the location on August 13.
