A Vietnamese boat attacked on June 10

Captain Nguyen Nhat Ngoc said his vessel was fishing like usual when a Chinese boat suddenly arrived and attacked them with water canon on July 21. The Chinese vessel continued to ram the Vietnamese boat.

"I looked out after hearing a siren and saw a bigger vessel coming straight toward us. I tried to speed up to escape but they chased us," Ngoc said.

Luong Xuan Nguyen said the vessel appeared to be armed.

Several fishermen have recently claimed to have been attacked by Chinese ships.

A fisherman in Quang Ngai Province said that four Chinese ships surrounded their boat near Paracel Islands on June 10. Six people boarded their boat and stole their catch and equipment. Another fisherman in Quang Ngai said they were chased and fired on by water cannon.
