Defence minister General Phung Quang Thanh returned home early this morning after substantial medical treatment in France.
The general arrived back in Hanoi this morning at 6.10 this morning.
A Dan Tri source said Thanh was in good health, flying in business class without the need for any medical supervision.
On July 2, Professor Pham Gia Khai, a member a government body tasked with the health of senior officials said General Thanh had gone to France for treatment to this lungs.
“Thanh was in good condition and could walk easily and wave to people," said an anonymous airport official.
German news Agency DPA reported on July 19 that an unnamed Vietnamese military source at the hospital in France had announced that the general had died from lung cancer.
The German news outlet added that the source declined to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media about the matter.
The article was dismissed by Vietnam People’s Army. Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on July 20 affirmed that the DPA report about Gen. Thanh's death is unfounded.
