Demonstrators gathered in front of Chinese Consulate in with Vietnamese flags and banners stating opposition to China's claims of sovereignty over the Spratly and Paracel archipelagos, and urged Beijing to halt activities in the East Sea.

A march began with Vietnam's national anthem and a commemoration to soldiers who had died protecting the nation's maritime sovereignty.

Nguyen Lam Son, head of the organising group, spoke about China’s illegal activities in the East Sea over past years, including China’s occupation of Gac Ma and a number of islands and reefs in Truong Sa in 1988.

The protesters urged China to comply with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 and Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

Vietnamese in other German cities, including Berlin and Frankfurt, also held rallies to oppose China's provocative actions in the East Sea.
