Hanoi noodle shop offers cheap meals to low income people

A beef noodle stall on O Cho Dua Street in Hanoi is offering cheap meals to low income earners.

Chau Ngoc Diep, 30, from Hue City, began in early June offering 150 bowls of beef noodles on the first Friday of the month for VND1,000, or about five US cents, a bowl.

“Initially, they were suspicious, but our staff worked hard to convince them it was not a scam," said Diep.

 

A comfort to low-income people

The special Friday attracts many customers, including construction workers, toothpick sellers and shoe cleaners, who have come to appreciate his offer.

Huyen, a street seller from nearby O Cho Dua, said she often comes to the noodle stall once a month. It is her monthly treat because she cannot afford to such a meal.

 

The noodle store’s owner comes from Hue City

Diep saId, "I want to recycle my profits to help poor and low-income people. I want to double or triple the number of people I can feed."
