Two dead after HCMC scaffold collapse

At least two workers died after a construction site scaffold in HCM City collapsed.

The scaffold, at a 17-storey building on Nguyen Van Linh Street collapsed early July 10.

Dozens of firefighters and rescue workers were mobilized.Workers said the scaffold covered 100 square metres and was tens of metres high. Seven workers were trapped under the wreckage. Four were rushed to hospital. Two were declared dead on site. Another worker remains trapped, but is alive.

A spokesman for the construction unit said they were doing a concrete pour the night before when heavy rain stopped work. The rain may have compromised the integrity of the scaffold.
